Wheelchair Rugby

Hello everyone, Chris here, you know, the founder and big cheese!?

I wanted to give you a little update as to what we’re up to here at Want My Space? Towers. We’ve had conversations with a number of organisations about partnering up, and a few zealous Facebook pages are also interested in doing the same. We welcome credible teams who wish to join us so if you are reading this and want to link virtual arms then please let us know! Use the contact us form located on the right hand side.

Anyway, the title of this post is ‘Wheelchair Rugby’ isn’t it? You may be wondering why? Well, simply put it has become my new passion. I love the thrill of the game, the teamwork, the banter and the friendship outside of the game – we’re family.

It’s something I thought I had lost after becoming disabled, and I am really happy to have it back. There is a new league being created for those who are unclassifiable for the traditional league, so players like me who can use their legs to stand on and take a few steps will be able to play too.

My club, The Dorset Destroyers, operate in Poole. There are players of all abilities, some who play recreationally, some who play for Invictus Team GB, paralympians and those who are like me who are excitedly awaiting the new league.

My advice is this; find a team local to you and join it – don’t think twice, get on it! If you don’t have one of your own, set one up! If you need help then contact me and I can put you in touch with a gent who has done exactly this, with great success, and support from his family.

Read more about how the club was formed here.
